Baku to host the 9th International Travel and Tourism Fair

AITF 2010, the 9th Azerbaijan International Travel and Tourism Fair, will be held on 28-30 April in the Heydar Aliyev Sport and Concert Complex. AITF is a place for meeting tourism industry professionals and a link between companies wishing to expand their business in Azerbaijan, and provides visitors with an ideal opportunity to discover new tourist destinations.
The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Each year, the ministry, representing Azerbaijan, has a stand at the exhibition and organises a number of additional events. Vienna welcomed athletes for its 27th traditional marathon

The marathon was attended by Azerbaijani athlete for the second time.
This marathon has annually been taken place since 1984 with the participation of professional athletes from different world countries.
Azerbaijan has joined this traditional marathon first in 2009.
This time military attache, Lieutenant-Colonel Kamil Guliyev represented Azerbaijan, who competed on the team of military attaches of embassies accredited in Austria. Read more >

Azerbaijan is three days away from the Iceland’s ash cloud

The spread of ash clouds from Iceland’s volcano eruption still continues to attack the territories of east European countries even passing through the air spaces of Turkey and Russia.
Deputy Director of National Hydrometeorology Department at Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry Umayra Taghiyeva gave an interview to media on issue of volcano eruption in Iceland citing that the thick ash clouds yet not to reach Azerbaijan within two-three days. According to her prognosis analyses connected with the ash clouds show that south-west air mass was observed in Turkey. And such air masses are auspicious for Azerbaijan: “It may affect Azerbaijan's territory unless air masses in Turkey move through the eastern direction. Read more >

The WB: Azerbaijanis didn’t suffer from the crisis

The World Bank has conducted public presentation of the report on assessment of living conditions in Azerbaijan.
At the presentation Bank’s senior economist Lire Ersado claimed that when making the report it was estimated how earnings received by Azerbaijan in the process of development have impact on personal income and living conditions; portrait of poverty in the country; goals and efficiency of state social policy. National beach soccer team headed to Sochi for training

The Azerbaijani national beach soccer team will be at training camp in the Russian city of Sochi Apr.16-28. Under the preparations, our national team will meet in friendly matches with teams of Russian clubs, the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) told to media.
The association reported that the list of the players invited to the tranings includes Elvin Guliyev, Elnur Ahmadov, Emin Kurdov, Ilgar Abdullayev, Renat Sultanov, Elshad Guliyev, Muslim Huseynov, Namig Isgandarov, Ilham Azizzade, Ilkin Hajiyev, Hikmet Bagirov, Seymur Mammadov, Asif Zeynalov and Rovshan Huseynli.

Cabinet of Ministers to focus on medical education improvement

Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers approved the content and rules of the organization of resident education, the Cabinet of Ministers said.
According to the decision, these rules have been developed for the integration of higher medical education in the global medical education environment and will create conditions for improving the quality of education under the principles of pan-European system of medical education. Read more >

Consultations held by EYF focused on Azerbaijan’s education system

Consultations on education in Azerbaijan are continued. The Working Group of the European Youth Forum held a meeting at the Azerbaijani Ministry of Youth and Sport on Friday.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Intigam Babayev said that 5,000 Azerbaijani students will be educated abroad in accordance with the state program to train young people abroad (2007-2015). Read more >

Azerbaijani UN rep sends letter to Ban on anniversary of Khojaly Genocide

Agshin Mehdiyev, permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, has sent a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the 18th anniversary of Khojaly Genocide.
The letter says: The ongoing armed conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has resulted in the occupation of almost one-fifth of the territory of Azerbaijan and made approximately one out of every eighth persons in the country internally displaced or a refugee. The most serious international offences, such as war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, were committed in the course of the conflict. Read more >

British Council organized exhibition of modern art work ended

The opening ceremony of Rock, Paper, Scissors, the exhibition of works from the rich and versatile British Council collection took place on February 22 at the Academy of Fine Arts of Azerbaijan. The event had its announcement in the first half of the month.
Before exhibition was opened pro-rector of the Academy Salham Mammadov welcomed the guests, as well as introducing the organizers of the event. Read more >

Religious symbols are removed from offices: Azerbaijan's authority says superstition may tunnel the Iranian Shiite influence into the country

In accordance with the country’s leadership, religious symbols must be removed from all offices, source from government office told to the local media.
The talk is about Koran and ayahs from the holy book which are hung on the walls. Up to date it was compulsory element of all official offices together with Ilham Aliyev and Heydar Aliyev’s portraits and the national flag. Now religious symbols must be removed.
